October 29 Antique Book Appraisal
(TROY, Mich.) – Do you have a book that is a hidden
treasure? The Friends of the Troy Public
Library (FTPL) celebrates their 50th
anniversary with a special antique book appraisal event on Wednesday, Oct. 29
at 7 pm at the Troy Public Library.
This
special event will feature John King’s Antique Book Road Show with John King,
one of the most famous dealers and appraisers of used and rare books in the country,
on hand to appraise old books.
“Over
the years, King has built a reputation among book lovers that speaks for
itself,” FTPL President Jeanne Stine said.
Through his retail business and rare book catalogs, King has handled a
myriad of books, autographs and archives, including the books and papers of
auto barons (from Dodge to DeLorean), authors (from John Kendrick Bangs to Zane
Grey), sports celebrities and more.
Members
of the FTPL will receive their first appraisal for free. All other appraisals
will be $2 per book with a limit of three books per person.
The
Friends of the Troy Public Library was
founded in 1958 as a non-profit organization to actively support and promote
the Troy Public Library. For the past 50
years, the work of the Friends of the Troy Public Library has generated the
resources for more than four hundred programs, much needed equipment, support
for children’s summer reading programs, writing workshops, computer classes, cultural
and fine arts programs, book groups, and special events throughout the year
which appeal to a diversity of interests.
The Troy Public Library is located at 510 West Big Beaver Road.
