Two Opportunities to
Celebrate Arbor Day
(TROY,
MI) – Troy has two
opportunities to celebrate National Arbor Day:
The Lloyd
A. Stage Nature Center is a proud recipient of a 2010 Arbor Day Grant through
the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
Thanks to this grant, the first 100 families to visit the Nature Center
on Friday, April 30, will receive a
free white pine sapling to take home and plant.
The Nature Center’s hours are 8:30
am-4:30 pm that day. The Nature
Center is located at 6685 Coolidge Highway in Troy. For more information, call 248.524.3567.
“We will
also have handouts available about the importance of trees, and how to plant
and properly care for them,” Nature Center Manager Stacy Yankee said. “There will be coloring and activity sheets
for the little ones, so bring out the family and help
us keep Michigan green.”
In
addition, the Troy Parks and Recreation Department and the Troy Garden Club are
co-sponsoring a Tree Planting Ceremony
on Friday, May 7 at 4:30 pm at
Firefighters Park. The entire family
is welcome to join in the fun.
Firefighters Park is located on the North side of Square Lake Road
between Crooks Road and Coolidge Highway.
For more information, call Troy Parks and Recreation at 248.524.3484.
