Troy City Manager Announces New Economic Development Specialist
Hired for City of Troy
 

 

(TROY, MI) – Troy City Manager John Szerlag announces the hiring of Glenn Lapin as the new Economic Development Specialist for the City of Troy.  

“Our number one goal is to help new and existing businesses locate, grow and expand within the City of Troy,” City Manager John Szerlag said.”  And in order to create an environment of investment within the City of Troy, it was crucial to fill the role of Economic Development Specialist to ensure our City’s economic development efforts are even more comprehensive and to coordinate business recruitment and retention.”

As Troy’s new Economic Development Specialist, Glenn Lapin will work with businesses to keep them viable as well as obtaining feedback on relevant issues to our business community.   He will also develop and coordinate economic development strategies for Troy, MI, including an economic gardening program that encourages collaborative partnerships to accelerate growth of second stage companies.  

 “Troy is Michigan’s premier address for business, retail and commerce and I am excited to work with the professional staff and the progressive and diverse business community,” Lapin said.  “The City has an excellent mix of tools available for the business community, including Troy’s updated Master Plan and new Zoning Ordinance as well as a strong infrastructure and connectivity with the business community and public sector partners.”

 

Prior to joining the City of Troy Team, Lapin was Director of Planning and Development for Detroit Renaissance, Inc.  He directed urban revitalization and economic development initiatives for the nonprofit business leadership organization dedicated to accelerating economic growth in Detroit and Southeast Michigan.  In addition, he managed site planning and construction management activities for the Detroit Grand Prix, Montreux Detroit International Jazz Festival and International Freedom Festival

Lapin also served as Interim Director of Workforce Development at Henry Ford Community College, leading the College’s workforce development programs and managing the Michigan Technical Education Center facility.  M-TEC provides certified testing and workforce development training programs in sectors such as health sciences, advanced manufacturing, applied technology and the green economy.

Lapin holds a masters degree in Urban Planning and a bachelors degree in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Michigan.
