Troy SeniorNet Offers Free Computer Services

(TROY, MI) – Seniors that want to learn and use the computers can turn to the SeniorNet services that are offered at the Troy Community Center:

Free Private Consultations

Meet one-on-one with a SeniorNet instructor at the computer lab at the Community Center and get answers to yours questions about PC operation, Word, Internet, e-mail and more. 45 minute appointments are available on the first Wednesday at 9:30, 10:15 or 11 am. If you use a laptop, bring it. Call 248.524.3484 to schedule your appointment.

Computer Hard Drive Erasure

This is a free service to help prevent identity theft for people throwing out of giving their computer away. Remove the hard disk drive from the processing unit and bring it in, or bring the whole processing unit in (just the unit, not the monitor, keyboard and mouse) and the volunteers will remove it for you.  Since the erase process typically takes 6-8 hours, plan to leave the hard drive and pick it up a few days later.  Volunteers are available on the third Wednesday from 10 am to noon.

Drop-In Computer Lab

An open computer lab is provided for seniors to type and print letters, use the Internet, play games, or practice learned skills. There are eight computers, with use on a first come basis limited to one hour if anyone is waiting. Lab hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am-5 pm, Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 to noon and Friday from 9:30 am-4 pm.
