Mary Kerwin Receives Michigan Municipal League Education Award

(TROY, MI) – Troy Councilmember Mary Kerwin is one of only nine elected officials statewide to receive the Michigan Municipal League Elected Officials Academy Level One Education Award.  The MML’s Elected Officials Academy is a voluntary, continuing education program established to encourage and recognize the efforts of local elected officials to become effective leaders.  Councilmember Kerwin was honored at Michigan Municipal League’s Annual Convention held October 3.

According to Mayor Louise Schilling, “This Education Award signifies a commitment of time and study, and I applaud Mary’s accomplishment.  The Troy community benefits when policy leaders like Mary show such dedication in not only learning the roles and responsibilities of the job, but also keeping abreast of the many issues facing City Council.”

Mary Kerwin was elected to Troy City Council in November 2007. She has been recognized for outstanding leadership by other state associations while serving as Vice Chair of the Troy Planning Commission and President of the Troy Board of Education.  She is a Master Citizen Planner, an alumna of Troy’s Citizens Academy and MSU’s Michigan Political Leadership Program, and serves on MSUE’s Leadership Council.
