(TROY,
MI) – Troy Councilmember Mary Kerwin is
one of only nine elected officials statewide to receive the Michigan Municipal League
Elected Officials Academy Level One Education Award. The MML’s Elected Officials Academy is a
voluntary, continuing education program established to encourage and recognize
the efforts of local elected officials to become effective leaders. Councilmember Kerwin was honored at Michigan
Municipal League’s Annual Convention held October 3.
According
to Mayor Louise Schilling, “This Education Award signifies a commitment of time
and study, and I applaud Mary’s accomplishment.
The Troy community benefits when policy leaders like Mary show such
dedication in not only learning the roles and responsibilities of the job, but
also keeping abreast of the many issues facing City Council.”
Mary
Kerwin was elected to Troy City Council in November
2007. She has been recognized for outstanding leadership by other state
associations while serving as Vice Chair of the Troy Planning Commission and
President of the Troy Board of Education.
She is a Master Citizen Planner, an alumna of Troy’s Citizens Academy
and MSU’s Michigan Political Leadership Program, and serves on MSUE’s
Leadership Council.
