Election Information from Troy’s City Clerk
(TROY,
MI) – Polls will be
open 7 am-8 pm on Election Day, Tuesday,
November 4. Voters will be required
to either show picture identification or sign an affidavit attesting to the
fact that they do not possess picture identification.
Register to Vote
The last
day to register to vote in the General Election is Monday, October 6. Anyone
who needs to register can stop by the City Clerk’s office on the 2nd
floor of City Hall at 500 West Big Beaver.
The Michigan Voter Registration Form is available on the City Clerks web
site: www.troymi.gov/clerks. If you have registered previously, there is
no need to register again.
Consider Voting Absentee
Due to an
expected high voter turnout and the potential for long lines at the polls on
Election Day, the City Clerk’s office is encouraging voters, who qualify to
receive an Absentee Ballot, to consider their schedules and the potential need
for an Absentee Ballot. Should you
desire an Absentee Ballot, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for
your ballot to allow adequate processing time.
To get an Absentee Ballot, you must
1)
Fill
out a simple application. An online link
is available at www.troymi.gov/election.
2)
Absentee
applications may be returned as follows:
a.
24-hour outdoor drop boxes at the East and West entrances to City Hall. The West entrance drop box is a drive-up box
and the East side is a walk-up drop-box.
b.
USPS Mail
c. The
City Clerk’s Office between 8 am and 4:30 pm.
3)
When
you receive your ballot, mark your votes, place it in the secrecy sleeve and
envelope, seal it, sign the envelope, and deliver it by mail or drop it off at
City Hall in one of the outdoor drop boxes or to the Clerk’s Office.
Election Workers Needed
U.S.
citizens age 16 and older are needed to work the polls in Troy on Election
Day. These are paid positions and the
training will be provided by the City Clerk’s office. Please contact the
Clerk’s Office as soon as possible to schedule training and Election Day
placement.
“This is a
great opportunity for students, retirees or anyone who is looking for some
extra income,” City Clerk Tonni Bartholomew said. “There are full or half-day positions
available, so a stay-home mother could work while her children are at
school. Or a high school student who is
at least 16 years old could work after school.”
All workers
must live in Oakland County be at least 16 years of age on the day of the
election. Students 18 years of age or
older must be a registered voter in Oakland County. For more information, call the City Clerk’s
