Meet Your Local Firefighters at the Fire Department Open House
on Sunday, October 9 at all Six Troy Fire Stations

(TROY, MI) – Meet your local volunteer firefighters at the annual Troy Fire Department Open House on Sunday, October 9 from 1- 4 pm.  The department will host open houses at all six fire stations.  These dedicated individuals train extensively to provide Troy with emergency fire protection and rescue services.

“This annual event has become a wonderful tradition in Troy,” Fire Chief Bill Nelson said.  “This year’s theme is ‘Protect Your Family From Fire’ and these Open Houses teach fire safety in a fun, relaxed way.  This also is a chance to meet our amazing volunteer firefighters and see first-hand the pride they take in the work they do.”

On display at Fire Station 6 is a piece of the World Trade Center. The public will be able to see a small section of the building that was the target of terrorists 10 years ago.  The public is invited to come see this artifact, share their stories & even touch a piece of history.

“The goal of the annual Fire Open House is to educate families on ways they can protect themselves from fire.  The best way to ensure the Fire Department does not need to respond to your home is to prevent a fire from occurring,” Nelson added.  Firefighters will be on hand to discuss the theme and to provide information about how a resident or business person can best accomplish this goal of protecting your family from fire.

There will also be several activities and demonstrations to educate and entertain all who attend.  Visitors can enjoy “stop, drop and roll” demonstrations, ladder truck rides (Station 1,2,3); E.D.I.T.H. practice in the Fire Safety House at Station 3; handling fire hoses; vehicle extrication; fire extinguisher training - how they work and how to use them in your home. Sparky the Fire Dog will make appearances at Station 5 at 1 pm, Station 2 at 2 pm and Station 6 at 3 pm.  Refreshments and drawings for prizes are also available at each Fire Station.
