City of Troy Offers Free Workshop to Prevent Foreclosure

(TROY, MI) – As the economy changes drastically, homeowners continue to worry about their finances, their home and their future. Helping to put their minds at ease, the City of Troy is offering a free foreclosure workshop from 7-8:30 pm, Wednesday, January 14 at the Troy Community Center, Room 305.

Focused on protecting your American dream, this workshop features speakers from Green Path Debt Solutions, Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, Lighthouse, and Oakland County Housing Counseling. Topics to be discussed will highlight money management, including budgeting, credit, and debt; and the basics of foreclosure, including the timeline, what to expect, and what to do if you’re at risk.

“With the economy in a seemingly unstable state, it’s a very scary time for some homeowners,” said Cindy Stewart, community affairs director for the City of Troy. “It’s important for our residents to know that they are not alone in this crisis. The City of Troy is working with various organizations to promote education to help prevent foreclosure.”

Troy residents are also urged to contact the Homeownership Preservation Foundation if they fear they are in risk of foreclosure. HPF is a nonprofit dedicated to reducing foreclosures and preserving homeownership. HPF provides their Homeowner’s HOPE hotline - 888.995.HOPE, a free foreclosure prevention counseling service.
