Trick or Treat Among the Trees, Saturday, Oct. 24, at select time slots in the evening at the Stage Nature Center

Halloween doesn’t have to be ghastly and frightening; it can be a fun and friendly outdoor celebration.  Put your Halloween costume on and come out to hike the woodland pumpkin trail at the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center. After checking in at the Nature Center, each child gathers with others at his/her registered time. Then the group hikes down the trail with a guide, stopping at natural history stations along the way. At each stop children will learn some secrets of the forest and receive treats and meet costumed characters. This program is for children 3-9 years old and their parent or grandparent!  The adult partner is free and must accompany the child throughout the program. Dress for the weather!  Minimum registration numbers are required by October 18. The fee for this event is $8 or $10 non-residents.  (Time slots available: 5 – 6:30 pm, 5:15 – 6:45pm, 5:30 – 7pm, 5:45 – 7:15 pm and 6 – 7 pm.) It’s time to go green!  Even at Halloween. The Troy Museum invites you to Go Green on the Village Green at their annual Halloween Party, where young people can Trick or Treat around the buildings and enjoy silly (not-too-scary or slimy) treats, crafts, music, dancing, and storytelling. This fun, fabulous GREEN HALLOWEEN will happen at Troy Historic Village on Saturday, October 31 from 1-3 pm.

Costumes made from recyclables are welcome. Enter the Best Homemade Costume Contest at the GazeBOO at 2 pm. There will be stories at the Campfire at 1:15 pm, 1:45 pm, and 2:15 pm. Ms. Green Thumbs awaits your arrival at the ABC Children’s Garden. Get crafty at the *Reduce*Reuse*Recycle* Tent, and meet Mr. Green Superhero who wants you to help him Save the Planet.

The Troy Garden Club will be here giving away mini-pumpkins to youngsters (as long as supplies last). A complimentary snack of Michigan cider and pretzels will also be on offer.

When all your treats are collected, visit with and learn about bats and the important role they play in your neighborhood. They’ll be accompanied by their friends from the Organization for Bat Conservation.
