FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(TROY, MI) – Susan Stirling, Training Manager from the Oakland Mediation
Center will present I-Safe, an Internet safety presentation for parents and
students looking to expand their knowledge about how to protect themselves
while online. The seminar will be held in the Troy Community Center, rooms 301 and 503, from 7-8:30 pm Tuesday, April 14.
It is free and is hosted by the Troy Public Library.
“Parents should recognize that, although the Internet is
a highly educational and beneficial resource for teens, it can also be a very
dangerous place,” Troy Public Library Director Cathy Russ said. “This seminar will teach parents and teens how to prevent unwanted online
attacks and harassment.”
Participants will be educated on cyber predators and cyberbullying, a rising problem for teens today. In fact,
42 percent of students have been bullied online. It’s also a chance to create
dialog between parents and teens. Separate sessions will be held for both
parents and teens.
Registration is required at www.libcoop.net/troy, or call
248.524.3542. The Troy Public Library is
located at 510 West Big Beaver Road.
