NATURE CENTER CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO PULL INVASIVE PLANTS
ON MAY 16 AND MAY 30
(TROY,
MI) –The Lloyd A.
Stage Nature Center is looking for volunteers for its two “Invasive Plant Pull”
days: Saturday, May 16 and Saturday,
May 30. The plant-pulls will begin
at 10 am both days in an effort to eradicate “garlic mustard,” an
invasive nonnative plant.
This is the
perfect activity for civic groups, church groups, master gardeners, eagle scout
candidates, high school students looking to accumulate more volunteer hours, or
anyone else interested in helping preserve native flora. The work is best suited for teens and adults
and is limited to groups or individuals, ages
14-adult.
Plant-pullers
should come with garden gloves, a hand-weeding tool (optional), and some
old-fashioned elbow grease. No power
tools are allowed. Bring a kneeling pad,
if desired. Participants will be asked
to pull the 3-4 foot tall garlic mustard biennials that are competing for
resources with native vegetation at the Nature Center.
