Nature Center Calling for Volunteers to Pull Invasive Plants on May 1, 8 and 15

(TROY, MI) –The Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center is looking for volunteers for its three “Invasive Plant Pull” days:  Saturdays, May 1, 8 and 15.  The plant-pulls will begin at 10 am both days in an effort to eradicate “garlic mustard,” an invasive nonnative plant.

This is the perfect activity for civic groups, church groups, master gardeners, eagle scout candidates, high school students looking to accumulate more volunteer hours, or anyone else interested in helping preserve native flora.  The work is best suited for teens and adults and is limited to groups or individuals, ages 14-adult.

Plant-pullers should come with garden gloves, a hand-weeding tool (optional), and some old-fashioned elbow grease.  No power tools are allowed.  Bring a kneeling pad, if desired.  Participants will be asked to pull the 3-4 foot tall garlic mustard biennials that are competing for resources with native vegetation at the Nature Center.

For more information or to register, call 248.524.3567.  The Nature Center is located at 6685 Coolidge Highway in Troy.
