Troy Public Library Launches Blog to Assist Patrons with Technology

(TROY, MI) – Are you interested in new technology? Do you like to find cool Web sites with the latest about life in the Information Age? Are you looking for tips to make your computer use more efficient? If so, then the Troy Public Library’s new blog – The Tech Desk (tpltechnology.blogspot.com) – is the Web site for you.  The Tech Desk is written by the Library’s Technology Department staff members. It includes reviews of Web sites, ways to make your computer use more productive, reports on what is happening in the technology world, and updates on how technology is being used at the Library.

In case you are unfamiliar with the term, a blog is a Web site which contains short entries or posts, written on a single topic. The posts are arranged in chronological order, with the newest post first. You can search the blog by subject to find exactly the information for which you are looking. The best thing about a blog is that it is interactive: You can make comments on individual posts or ask questions of the authors. You can even comment on what others are saying.

Over the past couple of weeks, The Tech Desk has blogged about a new IRS Web site for small businesses; a report on how people are using social networking Internet sites; tips on using Microsoft Word and Excel 2007; new electronic Library resources, such as downloadable videos; and upcoming changes to the Library’s Web site.

And if you find The Tech Desk valuable, you can subscribe to it using one of the standard RSS readers. For more information on The Tech Desk, e-mail Phillip Kwik, Troy Public Library Technology Department, at kwikpj@troymi.gov or call 248.619.7577. The Troy Public Library is located at 510 West Big Beaver Road.
