Freedom and Win Prizes with the MLK Essay Contest
(TROY, MI) – The wisdom of Martin Luther King, Jr.
has resonated throughout our society for more than 50 years. As we approach
another year of celebrating his life and lessons, students from the City of
Troy are invited to enter the MLK Day Essay Contest. This year’s essay theme
asks “How Can the Teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Influence a Current
Issue in Today’s Society?" This contest is open
to all Middle School and High School Students, grades 6-12, who live in
Troy. Essays are due by Wednesday,
December 17 at 4 pm.
“Our
society is constantly changing, however, the wisdom of those who came before us
is still imperative to ensure that, when it comes to inequality, history does
not repeat itself,” said Cindy Stewart, City of Troy Community Affairs
Director. “We’re asking students to
simply apply Martin Luther King, Jr’s passionate
words to an issue that they think is prevalent in their lives.”
All
essays must be 150 words or less, typed, double-spaced, and in a 12-point font.
Each essay must include a cover sheet with the following information: author’s
name, address, school, grade, phone number, and parent/guardian name.
