Troy Museum & Historic Village is Perfect Outlet for Cabin Fever

(TROY, MI) –The Troy Museum & Historic Village invites families and Scouts to check out their great lineup of activities for the month of March.

“This is the perfect outlet for the cabin fever that many young families experience as the winter weeks drag on,” Museum Director Loraine Campbell said.  “Our historians are ready to engage curious young minds with fun activities designed to provide a glimpse of the City of Troy’s past.”

Cheddar’s Preschool Story Hour – Wednesday, March 3, from 10:30-11:15 am.

Listen to a classic tale and complete a craft revolving around this month’s theme – “Homemade Butter with Mother Goose.”  A yummy treat will be served to complete the experience.  This event is appropriate for children ages 2-5 and all children must be accompanied by an adult.  Phone registration is required.  Children are free, adults are $3.

VillageTour and Candlemaking – Saturday, March 20, from 1-3 pm.  This is a great outing for families or Scouts as the Museum Staff offers a guided tour of Troy’s heritage, complete with the fun of dipping two sourvenir candles.  Come see an authentic log cabin, and imagine what it was like to live in the past.  Also visit the oldest house in Troy (1832), Poppleton School, the Blacksmith Shop and more.  Recommended for third graders and older.  The fee is $5 per person and registration is required.

Museum Music, Irish Style – Saturday, March 20, from noon-4 pm.  Sit in on a session of lively Irish music, together with members of the Detroit Irish Music Association.  Their casual acoustic music will warm your spirit.  Come to just listen or if you play an instrument or sing, join in the music making.  Refreshments are provided.  The experience is free with admission to the Museum.

The Museum also offers several activities to come enjoy anytime during Museum hours.  Visitors can choose from the Log Cabin Hunt for young historians pre-Kindergarten through first grade, hands-on activities in the Troy Hall, the Village Artifact Hunt, or the Sears Catalog Search.

“These are fun activities to enjoy at any time convenient to your schedule designed to enrich your visit to the Troy Museum and Historic Village,” Campbell said.  “There is no registration required for these and they are ‘free’ as part of the admission to the Museum.”

Museum admission fees are $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 6-17, and free for children under the age of six.  The Museum hours are 9 am-4:30 pm, Monday-Saturday.  It is closed on Sundays.
