Museum Adventure Pass Presented by Macy’s
Launches for Second Year

Local Partnership Offers Free Access to Museums at the Troy Public Library

(TROY, MICH.) – The Museum Adventure Pass program presented by Macy’s will return for the second year beginning on October 25. The program, which is a partnership between Macy’s, metro area libraries, and a variety of local arts and cultural organizations, allows patrons to check out free passes for two or four people to local attractions.

“In the year that we have offered the program we have seen great success,” said Library Director Cathy Russ. “In just three short months we were able to check out nearly 1,000 museum passes to patrons.”

In addition to the extension, the program will also include new locations for library visitors to enjoy. These locations include the Anton Art Center, Birmingham Historical Museum and Park, Detroit Artist’s Market, and The Scarab Club. The program will continue to offer great locations like the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit Children’s Museum, Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, University of Michigan Exhibit Museum of Natural History, Cranbrook Art Museum, Cranbrook House and Gardens, Cranbrook Institute of Science, Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, Ford Rouge Factory Tour, and more.

“One of the greatest things about this program is how it enhances the library's mission,” said Russ. “By providing free access to these museums, patrons can expand their cultural enrichment experience.”

To receive free passes, individuals must have a valid Troy Public Library card. Patrons can browse TPL’s selection of available passes by visiting the Adventure Pass display in front of the checkout area. Since the library receives a limited amount of passes to each participating organization each week, not all locations will be available for checkout at a given time. Laminated passes at the Adventure Pass display signify the locations availability. Patrons must exchange the laminated passes at the checkout area in order to receive museum admission passes to hand in at the box office of the participating organization. Each checked out Museum Adventure Pass expires within one week from the date of checkout.

In addition to providing complimentary access to arts and cultural organizations, the Museum Adventure Pass program is designed to enhance the learning experience for people of all ages through books and other library materials. Library cardholders who check out a Museum Adventure Pass can also receive a comprehensive brochure about the program and can go on-line at www.detroitadventurepass.org to find a list of suggested readings, tapes and DVDs to complement their museum experience.

“Half of the adventure is returning to the library to follow-up with further research on any topic that was discovered while out on a museum adventure,” said Russ. “From history to art, or science to culture, Troy Public Library can offer a variety of resources for any inquisitive mind.”
