Nature Center Offers Great Lineup of Summer Day Camps

 

 

(TROY, MI) – The Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center offers a great lineup of summer camps.  The 100-acre facility, including a beautiful interpretive center, trails, climbing boulders, children’s nature area and beautiful gift shop, is a great summer destination.  Summer camps include:

 

Summer Ecology Days, June 22-25, 9 am-4 pm, for ages 6-7 and 8-10:  Give your child a special opportunity to study the science of ecology.  Every adventure-filled day will include fun interactive games, activities, and crafts.  Children will use pond nets to catch aquatic animals, sweep for insects in the meadow, explore life on a log using bug boxes and magnifiers, look for signs of wildlife along the trail, and much more.  Camp is held rain or shine.  Bring a sack lunch each day, refreshments and an afternoon snack will be provided.

 

Outdoor Skills Camp, June 29-July 2, 9 am-4 pm, for ages 9-12:  Participate in many outdoor exploration activities including fire building, campfire cooking, orienteering, geocaching, putting up a tent, building an emergency shelter, making a survival kit, lashing, sampling backpacking food, making a hiking stick, etc.  On Friday, you will cook your own lunch over a campfire.  Dress to be outside.  Bring a sack lunch Tuesday - Thursday; snacks, beverages and Friday’s lunch will be provided.  There will be lots of exciting things to do each day, rain or shine.  Fees are $110 for residents and $115 for non-residents.

 

Preschool Earth Explorers Camp, July 6-9, 9:30 am-11:30 am, for ages 4-5:  Children will explore animals, pond life, bugs, wildflowers and other wonders of nature.  They will make their own nature book, press flowers and leaves, and plant an egg head.  Each child will receive a net and bug hotel to catch and observe butterflies, grasshoppers, and other creatures found during daily explorations!  At the end of the program, children will take home the net and bug hotel for future explorations in nature.  Fees are $50 for residents and $55 for non-residents.

 

River Camp, July 27-30, 9 am-4 pm, for ages 6-10:  If your child has a fascination with water, pond life, streams and more then this is the camp for them! This new four-day camp will teach kids about the importance of our freshwater habitats.  Activities will include pond dipping, water quality testing, and studying the critters that depend on water such as frogs, turtles, and salamanders. The week will culminate as we discuss how humans use water and build our own boats to race down the Rouge River!  Children should prepare to get dirty and come daily with boots and a sack lunch – refreshments and an afternoon snack will be provided. For the last day of class children also need to bring a toy or action figure that is seaworthy enough to navigate their boat.  Fees are $100 for residents and $105 for non-residents.

 

Stirring Up Science Camp, August 3-6 from 9 am-12 pm for ages 5-7 or from 1-4 pm for ages 8-10:  Captivate your kid’s creativity this summer with our camp full of science surprises!  Kids get to dive-in hands first to amazing science projects.  They will learn the secret formulas to concoctions like slime, putty, moons and soap.  Kids will also grow crystals, make ice cream, build a UV detector and design a pop bottle rocket.  Don’t miss out on their chance to explore simple yet startling science phenomena.  Fees are $119 for residents and $124 for non-residents.
