FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

National Night Out Block Party in Troy – Family Fun!

(TROY, MI) Target Corporation, in partnership with the City of Troy and the Troy Police and Fire Departments are hosting a “National Night Out” event on the evening of Tuesday, August 5, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. in the open area across from the Troy Family Aquatic Center on Town Center Drive and behind Troy City Hall located at 500 W. Big Beaver.

Join us for hotdogs, watermelon, pop & water, music and fun.  See fire trucks, the Fire Smokehouse, register your bicycles with the Police Department and visit with the Police K-9 unit.  Clowns -- Patty Cake and Flap Jack -- will be on hand to entertain the kids with balloon animals and face painting.

All are welcome to this free family friendly event held in conjunction with this year’s kick-off of the National Night Out Against Crime Project sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.  According to the National Town Watch website, the project is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in crime prevention programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This Troy-based block party is aimed at encouraging citizens and neighbors to get outside, get to know one another, and be one another’s, as well as the Police Department’s, eyes and ears against crime in the community. The Target Corporation is a major sponsor of the National Night Out program, and we sincerely appreciate Target’s efforts in bringing this event to Troy.

Hollywood Market has graciously donated the hotdogs and buns, Agrusa International Market Place has donated watermelons for a special treat and Alliance Mobile Health is the ice sponsor so we guarantee everyone keeps cool!   Contacts for the project are: Mr. Tyrell Barner of Target Corporation 248.614.9792 x3209; Ms. Cindy Stewart, City of Troy Community Affairs Director 248.524.1147; Sgt. Bob Kowalski, City of Troy Police Department 248.524.3464.
