(TROY,
MI) –
Target Corporation, in
partnership with the City of Troy Community Affairs, Police and Fire
Departments are hosting a “National Night Out” event on Tuesday, August 4,
2009, from 6-8 pm in the open area across from the Troy Family
Aquatic Center on Town Center Drive and behind Troy City Hall located at 500 W.
Big Beaver.
All are
welcome to this free family friendly event held in conjunction with this year’s
kick-off of the National Night Out Against Crime
Project sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
The event
includes hotdogs, watermelon, pop & water, music and fun. It’s a great chance to see fire trucks and Police
and Alliance Mobile Health vehicles.
Residents can also register bicycles with the Police Department and
visit with the Police K-9 unit.
“This
Troy-based block party is aimed at encouraging citizens and neighbors to get
outside, get to know one another, and be one
another’s, as well as the Police Department’s, eyes and ears against crime in
the community,” Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart said. “We sincerely appreciate Target’s efforts in
bringing this event to Troy.”
Troy Police
Sergeant Russ Harden notes that the City of Troy is recognized as one of the
safest cities in the nation. He said the
Police Department views this ranking as a shared accomplishment between Police
and Fire employees, volunteers and community groups, as well as residents who are willing to
get involved.
“The
National Night Out most certainly complements our proactive public safety
efforts,” Harden said. “We are pleased
to be a part of the National Town Watch project to heighten crime and drug
prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in crime
prevention programs, and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community
partnerships."
Contacts for
the project are Cindy Stewart, City of Troy Community Affairs Director at 248.524.1147
