Troy Public Library Kicks Off New Non-Fiction Book Group

(TROY, MI) – The Troy Public Library’s new non-fiction book group, As a Matter of Fact, will be reading and discussing historian Stephen B. Oates’ book, Abraham Lincoln, The Man Behind the Myths, on Wednesday, September 16, at 7 pm in the Library’s Meeting Room.  2009 marks the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth.

Tim Koerner, retired history instructor at OCC, will moderate the discussion. Books can be borrowed from the Adult Services Reference Desk during regular library hours. Just ask a librarian.

The mission of this new book group is to serve a highly diverse Troy Public Library non-fiction reading community by providing a forum for sharing of ideas, views, and opinions in the pursuit of intellectual inquiry and deeper community and cultural understanding. Various opinions are encouraged and respected.

The group will be reading The Skeptical Environmentalist by Bjorn Lomborg on November 18 and those books will also be available at the main Reference Desk in Adult Services starting in September.

To register for the non-fiction book group, visit www.libcoop.net/troy and click Program Registration. Interested readers can also register by phone at 248.524.3542. The Troy Public Library is located at 510 West Big Beaver Road.
