November
is National Novel Writing Month
Troy Public Library Offers “Noveling
Zone” for Aspiring Authors
(TROY,
MI)
– The Troy Public Library is calling on Teens and Adults to consider spending
the month of November bashing out a 50,000-word novel. It’s all part of supporting the ten-year
anniversary of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo),
a nonprofit literary crusade that encourages aspiring novelists all over the
world to write a novel in one month.
According
to NaNoWriMo, at midnight November 1, more than
100,000 writers from over 80 countries – poised over laptops and pads of paper,
fingers itching and minds racing with plots and characters – will begin a
furious adventure in fiction writing. By
11:59 pm on November 30, tens of thousands of them will be novelists.
“We’re
proud to support local writers by offering our space as a ‘noveling
zone’ to help them take the writing plunge,” Adult/Teen Librarian Judith
Franklin said. “Bring a pen and paper
or laptop and make yourself comfortable.”
Franklin
said the group will meet every Saturday in November from 3-5 pm. The first meeting will be November 1 in the
Library Meeting Room.
2008
is the ten-year anniversary of NaNoWriMo, founded in
1999 by freelance write Chris Baty. While the event stresses fun and creative
exploration over publication, 24 NaNoWriMo novelists
have had their NaNo-novels published, including Sarah
Gruen, whose New York Times #1 Best Seller, Water for
Elephants, began as a NaNoWriMo novel.
For more information about NaNoWriMo,
visit their website at www.NaNoWriMo.org.
“And if the sight of all those over-caffeinated creative types
gets you thinking that maybe it’s time you got started on your novel, well, it
probably is,” Franklin said. “Come on in
to the Library. We have your writing
table ready.”
The Troy Public Library is located at 510 West Big Beaver Road.
