(TROY, Mich.)
– “Playaways”
are becoming a hot commodity at the Troy Public Library as additional titles
are added to the list of what’s available on these new and innovative digital
audio books.
“Patrons are enjoying audio
books without the shuffling of tapes and CDs with our Playaways,”
Library Director Cathy Russ said.
Playaways are
small, self-contained audio books.
Offered in a variety of popular titles for both children and adults, you
can carry a Playaway in your pocket and listen with
headphones or via an FM adaptor in your car.
“They are great for those
people who are always on the go,” Russ said. “Use it when you are walking,
during your next car trip or at the gym.”
The device is half the size
of a deck of cards. With no tapes or
CDs, Playaways give listeners the ability to move
back and forth within or between chapters and alter the speed of a narrator’s
voice. It even has an automatic bookmark feature that remembers where you left
off. Additionally, Playaways
have a universal headphone jack that works with almost any type of headphone or
mobility accessory.
The Troy Public Library
recently added Playaway titles for adult readers such
as Catering to Nobody by Diane Mott Davidson, Codex 632: The Secret Identity of
Christopher Columbus by Jose Rodrigues dos Santos, Executive
Privilege by Philip Margolin, Fight Club by Chuck
Palahniuk, Naughty Neighbor by Janet Evanovich and Plague
of Doves by Louise Erdrich.
Titles are available for
children, too, including recently added Allie Finkle’s
Rules for Girls by Meg Cabot, Angel Experiment by James Patterson, Bird Lake
Moon by Kevin Henkes, Eragon
by Christopher Paolini, Magic Thief by Sarah Pineas, Queste by Angie Sage and
more.
