River
Day 2009 is Set!
Come
to the Stage Nature Center on June 6 and Clean Up
(TROY, MI)
– River Day is set for Saturday,
June 6 from 9 am-1 pm in the headwaters of the Rouge River to improve the
natural habitat along the stream at the Stage Nature Center. The City is continuing its tradition of helpful
activities for adult and student volunteers who want to maintain and improve
the natural balance of the Rouge River.
Participants
will be putting in native plants along the streambank,
removing invasive species of plants, and building trails. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and barbecue
lunch.
“This
upstream reach of the Rouge River is home to some of the most pristine water in
the entire Rouge River Watershed and here you can see amphibians, fish and
aquatic insects that are only found in high-quality waterways,” Jennifer Lawson,
the City's Environmental Specialist, said.
“This will be a wonderful opportunity to improve this natural
habitat. We’ll be making improvements in
our local ecosystem, helping to improve the overall health of the environment.”
The Nature Center
is located at 6685 Coolidge Highway.
