Unique Robot/Science Camps Offered in July and August

(TROY, MI) – The Troy Parks and Recreation department has teamed up with Sensational Workshops for Kids, Inc. to offer a number of unique camps for young techies/scientists ages 7-12:  The camps are all at the Troy Community Center:

The Electronic Lab Workshop is July 12-16 from 9 am-noon offering 30 different projects and experiments built with an electronic kit to stimulate the mind.  Science project ideas come alive while working with electronic circuits.  The kit is reusable.

Advanced Robotics is July 12-16 from 12:30-3:30 pm with the chance to build and take home the Jungle Robot.  There are many steps in the assembly process, one of which is the gear box offering a chance to see how different types of gears mesh and are driven by a motor.

Blowfish Robocraft is July 19-23 from 9 am-noon where a Robotfish with big, puffy cheeks gets built to take home.  This robocraft is propelled forward by a left/right moving tail fin.  This is a great chance to see how gears, circuits and motors work.  Join the Blowfish Robocraft Sciensational races and also design and build other robots that can perform many tasks as well as a car for speed to go on a special obstacle course.

Maglev Cars is July 19-23 from 12:30-3:30 pm with the opportunity to build a “futuristic Maglev” car to race and take home.  Learn about the relationship between magnetism and electricity and build a simple maglev track as well as a cool electromagnet.  Also, learn how motors and generators work.

Model Airplanes – Bridge Building – Electronic Gadgets Camp is August 16-20 from 9 am-noon.  Build six electronic projects including a rubber-powered model airplane, bridges and gadgets.  Some of them include a patrol car siren, burglar alarm and Morse code transmitter.  This is a great opportunity to learn how different electronic components work.

The Rockit Robot Camp is August 16-20 from 12:30-3:30 pm.  Build and take home a sound-activated Rockit Robot that responds to clapping or the sound of your voice.  See first-hand the many gears, circuit board, microphone and easy-to-assemble mechanical drive system of this fast-moving robot.  The fees are $111 for residents and $116 for non-residents.

Registration is required.  The fees are $150 for residents and $155 for non-residents.
