Day Camps for Kids Who Like Performing Arts Offered this Summer

TROY, MI) – The Troy Parks and Recreation department offers a variety of camps this summer, including one for budding rock stars and one for those looking for an overall performing arts experience.

A “Rock ‘n Roll Camp” is a new offering this summer.  Presented by Cyber Music Gear, this camp gives beginner to intermediate ages 10-17 musicians the chance to see what it’s like to be in a real band.  This camp is for beginner to intermediate guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers and pianists with at least three months of experience on their instrument.  Campers split up into 3-5 person bands for daily instrument instruction, jam sessions, music theory, the history of rock ’n roll and stage presence.  The camp is July 12-16 from 10 am-1 pm.  The fee is $125 for residents and $130 for non-residents.

The Fame Performing Arts Camp returns this summer, offering a week-long odyssey into the world of jazz dance, theatre, music and art.  The camp is filled with learning and fun as children master the foundations of performing arts discipline and combine them into an exciting finished product – an onstage performance for family and friends.  The Fame camps are offered as follows:

For grades 2-6, there are three different “Fame” camps offered:  July12-16, July 19-23, and Aug. 2-6, from 9 am - 2:30 pm.  For grades 4-9, there is one Fame camp July 26-30, from 9 am-2:30 pm.  The fees are $111 for residents and $116 for non-residents.

A special four-day version of the Fame camp for Pre-K-1st graders is offered June 28-July 1, from 9:30 am-12 pm.  The fee is $66 for residents and $71 for non-residents.
