(TROY, MI) – The SHARP Senior Home Assistance Repair Program helps
Troy seniors and persons with disabilities with home repairs. The program is co-sponsored by the Troy Parks
and Recreation Department and the Community Foundation of Troy.
The
work is done by volunteers and usually involves jobs that can be completed in
an hour or two. Labor is free but the
person requesting the repairs will be asked to pay for supplies.
Carla
Vaughan, the City liaison to the program, said SHARP volunteers completed over
400 jobs last year, and 94 percent of the people receiving service rated it as
excellent. The program is open to
seniors 60 or older or adults with disabilities, regardless of income.
“The
request can be for something as simple as changing a hard-to-reach light bulb
or smoke detector battery, or carrying a heavy item out to the curb,” Vaughan
said. “They will also fix leaky faucets,
replace electrical outlets, install grab bars, re-attach a loose gutter and
perform other minor repairs that will make your home safer.”
To
request a repair, call the Troy Community Center at 248.524.3484.
