SeniorNet Computer Classes at the Troy Community Center

 

 

 (TROY, MI) – Qualified senior instructors will be teaching several computer classes in the SeniorNet Computer Learning Center at the Troy Community Center.  These courses are a great way for seniors 50 and older to learn the basics of computer use in a friendly environment.  A computer is provided for each student and a textbook is included in the registration fee.

 

Students may retake a class over for free, if necessary.  Refunds may be requested prior to the start of the course. A low-income scholarship is available for those who qualify. 

 

Available courses include:

 

Computer Fundamentals:  this course is recommended for those who have no previous knowledge of computers.  Students will become familiar with computer basics.  Fee:  $36

 

Intermediate Computer Skills:  this course is for those who have already taken computer fundamentals, or have some previous computer experience.  In this course students will receive a hands-on introduction to Windows, file management, word processing, the Internet, e-mail spreadsheets and more.  Fee:  $54

 

File Management:  Learn how files and folders can be managed including how to create, copy, sort, delete, rename, search, and backup your files and folders.  Fee:  $18

 

Introduction to Word Processing:  This class is for those who have some computer experience or have taken Introduction to Computers. Learn how to use Microsoft Word to create letters and other documents.  We will also explore setting margins, inserting pictures using spell check and printing.  Fee:  $54

 

Windows XP:  This class is for those who have already taken Computer Fundamentals or have some previous computer experience.  Learn all about Windows XP, including file management, restoring files, and maintaining your hard drive. Fee:  $54

 

Safeguarding Your Computer and Personal Data:  This hands-on course will teach students how to protect their computer and personal data.  Topics will include backing-up a computer, installing a second hard drive, installing anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-spyware software, using firewalls and other computer safety measures.  This course is for those who have experience using a computer.  Fee: $36
