(TROY, MI) – It’s never too late to adapt to the changing ways of
technology. Seniors are invited to come
learn or brush up on their computer skills as the SeniorNet
Steering committee rounds out its summer series with a variety of classes:
Computer Fundamentals: This recommended first class will teach
computer basics and build self-confidence for those that have no previous
knowledge of computer or who feel that technology is beyond them. The fee is $34. Choose from three classes,
with each class featuring four, two-hour sessions offered at the following
dates and times:

5-14 Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30-11:30 am
Aug.
5-14 Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30-8:30 pm
Aug.
19-28 Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30-11:30 am
Intermediate Computer
Skills: This course
builds on Computer Fundamentals with a hands-on introduction to Windows, file
management, word processing, the Internet, email, spreadsheets and more. The course is $50 is taught in eight,
two-hour blocks on Mondays and
Wednesdays, August 4-27, from 1-3 pm.
File Management: Learn how files and folders can be
managed, including how to create, copy, sort, delte,
rename, search and backup files and folders.
The $17 course is taught in two, one-hour sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, August 26 and August
28, from 6:30-8:30 pm.
Digital Imaging Using PhotoShop Elements: This class provides hands-on experience working with
photos from a digital camera, scanner and other sources. Topics include restoring old photos, sharing
photos online, formats for photo files, and more. The class fee is $50. It is taught in eight, two-hour sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 5-28, from
1-3 pm.
Digital Format: Learn
how to format photos and clip art for maximum quality and minimum storage size
for use in emailing, file sharing and printing.
The class is $17 and is taught in two, two-hour sessions, on Tuesday and Thursday, August 19 and 21,
from 6:30-8:30 pm.
Safeguarding Your
Computer and Personal Data: Topics include backing up your computer,
installing a second hard drive, choosing anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware
and personal ptoreetions software; using firewalls
and routers; understanding privacy protection; using virtual credit cards; and
avoiding internet scams and hoaxes. The
fee is $34. The class will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, August 18-27, from
6:30-8:30 pm.
All
classes are held at the SeniorNet Computer Lab at the
Troy Community Center where qualified seniors teach students 50 and older. A computer is provided for each student and a
textbook is included in the registration fee.
