8th Annual Shared Inheritances Series Draws to a Close at Library

(TROY, MI) – The Troy Public Library’s 8th Annual Shared Inheritances series, which kicked off in May, is coming to an end with its final installment on Sunday, July 6 at 2 pm. The series will feature Iraqis-Chaldeans in Troy: Poetry & Book Reading by Author Weam Namou. This presentation will be followed by UR Group playing traditional music. The group includes Ghassan Hami (Drum - Dumbeg), Thamin Jabiro (Violin), and Ms. Ghada al-Makedsy (Lute - Ud). Ms. Makedsy will also play solo lute. The grand opening of the art exhibition, entitled “Layla ... an Iraqi Candle in the Night,” by visual artist and historian Amer Hanna Fatuhi, will take place during the event.

“Our City is one of the most diverse communities in the state,” said Cathy Russ, Library Director. “So it only makes sense to celebrate this fact with special performances and diverse programs that honor our community’s broad multicultural traditions.”
