Museum Offers Exciting Array of Summer
Camps
(TROY,
MI) Are
you looking for the perfect opportunity to expand your children’s experiences
this summer while interjecting some education in the mix? Take a peek at some exciting summer camps
offered right here in Troy! The Museum is offering four different camps that
will spark curiosity and excitement in any child! Camps include:
Creative Writing Camp: Tuesday-Thursday, July
15-17, from 10 am-noon
Share
your writing talents and hone your skills with this fantastic program, designed
for those who love to write! The camp meets at Poppleton Schoolhouse under the
direction of Ginny Czerwinski, a Language Arts teacher for 25 years. Campers
will utilize the wonderful village environment to stimulate a variety of
writing styles. Prospective campers must submit a writing sample in order to be
accepted into this special program. Fee: $30. Grades 4-6.
Space is limited. Register at the Museum and submit a writing sample by June
30.
Little House Adventure Camp: Thursday, July
24, from 10 am-2 pm
Calling
all Laura Ingalls Wilder fans! Experience pioneer life out of
the pages of her beloved Little House books. Visit an authentic
Log Cabin for old-fashioned chores and games. Then dance and sing with Pa and
his fiddle. Make a toy to take home, dip two beeswax candles and have a fun
one-room school lesson. Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch; lemonade will be
made by campers. Fee: $30. Ages 7-12. Register by July 18.
Time Traveler’s Camp: Thursday, Aug. 7, from
10 am-2 pm
Travel
back through time! Experience life in the 1840s cabin while learning to cook
over a fire and do chores. Visit the Caswell farm in the 1860s where you’ll
make a craft and shop at the General Store. Go to school in the 1880s for
lessons and recess. Travel to 1900 in the Parsonage/Farmhouse to learn
Victorian customs, play parlor games and have “tea.” Campers will complete a
scrapbook with highlights of their time travels. Bring a sack lunch. Fee: $30. Ages 8-12. Space is limited so register by July 31.
Archaeology Camp: Camp I: Monday-Wednesday
July 21-23, from 10:30 am-12:30 pm or Camp II: Monday-Thursday, Aug. 11-14,
10:30 am-1:30 pm
Learn
the basics of archaeology in a fun, hands-on way! Camp includes classroom time
to learn and time outside. Camp “I” includes sandbox digging and learning about
people from things left behind. Camp “II” includes digging in the grid,
processing artifacts and artifact analysis. Dress for the weather. Fees: $50
(Camp I) or $75 (Camp II). Camp I is for middle school students while Camp II
is for high school. Space is limited for this special camp; submit an
application (available at the Museum or online) by June 30 (Camp I) or July 21
(Camp II).
