Discover History Through Summer Camps and Workshops at the

Troy Museum & Historic Village

 

(TROY, MI) – The Troy Museum and Historic Village is offering three summer camps right here in Troy designed to expand your child’s experiences this summer.  The camps include:

 

Copper Wire Workshop -- Coils and Connections: Saturday June 27, from 10 am - 12 pm.

Learn how to make copper coils of different sizes and shapes.  See what happens when you push, pull and twist the coils, and then connect your coils into something fun to wear.  Participants will learn proper use of hammers and other simple hand tools.  For ages 7 and up.  Registration is $15. Register by June 22.

 

Coppersmithing Camp -- Mon.-Wed.  July 20-22, from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Copper, a metal used by Native Americans in Michigan, is one of the easiest to transform into beautiful and useful objects.  Have fun designing and making a three-ring mobile from copper sheet.  Discover hand tools like the ball peen hammer, the punch and the stake.  Learn stamping, chasing and riveting.  Proper use of tools emphasized while learning basic metalsmithing.  For ages 9 and up.  Registration is $50.  Register by July 13.  Space is limited.

 

I “Dig the Past” Camp -- Tues.-Fri.,  August 4-7, from 9 am - 4 pm

Discover the excitement that comes with studying geology, paleontology and archaeology during this special camp offered in collaboration with the Stage Nature Center.  Campers will spend a day at the Nature Center, Cranbrook Institute of Science -- including the “Hatching the Past” exhibit -- Troy Museum, and Rochester Hills Museum at VanHoosen Farm.  Participants receive professional instruction, admission to all four venues, riverwalking, camp T-shirt, snacks, hands-on activities and crafts.  Transportation to each site is not included.  Children must bring sack lunch.  Registration is $125.  For ages 9-13.  Register by July 27.  Space is limited.
