The Troy Firefighter Women’s Auxiliary
Sends Kids to Burn Camp
(TROY,
MI) –
The Troy Firefighter Women’s Auxiliary (TFFWA) sponsored
a very successful Euchre Tournament in March raising $3,600 for the Great Lakes
Burn Camp, a non-profit organization that provides a special place for burn
victims ages 6-17 to meet, heal, grow and support other burn survivors.
The money raised by the TFFWA will
send six kids to the camp this August for a week long camping adventure near
Kalamazoo, Michigan.
“We are so pleased to be able to help
six young people enjoy themselves and receive the unconditional love and
acceptance so critical to their healing,” Euchre Tournament Co-Chair Amy
Koehler said.
“To have raised this much money in
this economy is amazing,” Euchre Tournament Co-Chair Jessica Kalef said. “We want to thank everyone who participated
for helping the TFFWA to make such a positive difference in the lives of
children.”
Camp Director Mike Longenecker was on
hand to receive the check. He noted the
role the camp plays in encouraging the children to participate in activities
designed to build self-esteem and teach new skills.
“Many of these kids grow up and choose
to spend their time volunteering back at the camp each summer,” Longenecker
said. “It’s a place where kids can share
their stories and bond with each other without intrusive stares from other kids
and adults. The experience truly makes a
positive difference in their lives and they are pleased to come back and help
others as they have been helped.”
Great Lakes Burn Camp, Inc. is a
