Troy Daze Cancellation a Huge
Disappointment
(TROY, MI)
– The City of Troy and the Troy Daze Festival Committee are extremely
disappointed and very apologetic that this year's 40th anniversary Troy Daze
Festival had to be closed down on Saturday, September 13 and could not be
reopened for the remainder of the weekend.
The severe weather and rainfall created an alarming safety issue.
Other than the cancellation related to
the events of September 11, 2001, this is the first time in memory that the
Festival had to be closed.
“We’ve had numerous phone calls asking
if events will be rescheduled this coming weekend, but that’s simply
impossible,” Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart said. “Arnold Amusements has moved on to its next
scheduled event and there is no way to re-order tents, trailers, generators and
supplies, and reschedule the entertainment and food vendors so quickly.”
There are no refunds for parking
stickers or ride bracelets.
The rain that started on Friday evening at approximately 10 pm and continued throughout the night and into Saturday morning caused severe water damage to the large booth and entertainment tent, as well as Boulan Park.
“The 3-5 inches of rain created a very
dangerous situation in the tents,” Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart
said. “Combined with major flooding in
the park and the inability to operate the carnival rides, the Police, Fire and
Committee members had to make the painful decision to close the festival for
the rest of the weekend.”
Stewart noted that the results of the various Festival Contests are still being gathered and will be communicated as soon as possible.
