“Walk Michigan” Continues in Troy – Don’t Miss the
Chance to Win a Trip to Mackinac Island

(TROY, MI) – The Troy Parks and Recreation department continues to offer the “Walk Michigan” opportunity to improve health and fitness while also encouraging the enjoyment of the recreational facilities and park resources unique to Troy.  All walks are free, non-competitive and open to all ages.

“We had three walks in June with people of all ages joining in to enjoy this excellent form of exercise,” Fitness Coordinator John Hug said.  “We urge residents to get out there and enjoy any -- or all -- of the remaining walk events for the summer.  Physical activity makes people stronger and more energetic, prevents weight gain, and helps to lower anxiety and stress.”

Hug said the bonus – aside from the wonderful health benefits – includes the opportunity for each participant to be entered into a drawing to win a trip for two to Mackinac Island on Labor Day weekend to walk the bridge with the governor and several thousand walk enthusiasts.  This is an exclusive trip with special benefits provided only to those participating in the Walk Michigan program.

All walks will be held on the following dates and times:

Thursday, July 9, 10:30 am, Community Center, south entrance, 3179 Livernois

Monday, July 13, 7 pm, Firefighters Park, North side of Square Lake Rd., between Crooks and Coolidge

Thursday, July 23, 10:30 am, Community Center, south entrance, 3179 Livernois

Monday, July 27, 7 pm, Raintree Park, on west side of John R between Big Beaver and Wattles Roads

Saturday, August 1, 8:30 am, Huber Park, far north end of the Aquatic Center parking lot

Wednesday, August 5, 10 am, Stage Nature Center, at 6685 Coolidge Highway

Each time a walker participates in one of the walk events, their name is entered into the Labor Day Bridge Walk raffle.  The raffle will be held on August 5 at 11 am at the Stage Nature Center.  The winner does not need to be present to win.

Free water and snacks are provided by Whole Foods Market of Troy at each walk site.
