Take Part in the “Reduce
Your Carbon Footprint” Kid’s Challenge
(TROY,
MI) – The Lloyd A.
Stage Nature Center is challenging all kids to reduce their carbon footprint
with simple steps that they and their families can do to help the environment.
Our carbon footprint is the relative amount of carbon dioxide we produce while
going about our daily activities: driving to work or school, doing laundry,
turning on a light. Here’s your chance to win prizes while making small changes
in your everyday life that will reduce your negative impact on the environment.
To
take the challenge, kids can find a scavenger hunt form in the Spring 2009 Troy Today or online at www.troymi.gov/parksrec/naturecenter. On the form lists lots of ways to
reduce your carbon footprint, such as drinking tap water instead of bottled,
turn off lights in rooms that are not being used, using energy efficient light
bulbs, and more. Simply complete ten tasks on the list (with the help of your
parents) and take a photo of your family doing one of the tasks. Send the form
and the photo to the Nature Center and be entered in a drawing for a $10, $15, or $25 Gift Certificate, sponsored by the Troy
Garden Club, redeemable for any Nature Center program or for merchandise in the
Cattail Cove Nature Shop. All photos received will become the property of the
Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center and will be displayed.
Deadline for this contest is March 31. Drawing will be held on
April 1. The Nature
Center is located at 6685 Coolidge Highway in Troy. For more information, call
