– David Lyons and Paul Wasson didn’t know that they would capture every
golfer’s Holy Grail – a hole-in-one – when they teed off at the City of Troy’s
Sanctuary Lake Golf Course. Lyons, of Shelby Township, shot his first
hole-in-one on the ninth hole. He used a seven iron to ace the 148 yards. The 39-year-old
finished his nine-hold round of golf with a score of 46.
Wasson seized his first-time hole-in-one on the golf course’s 12th hole. The resident of Bloomfield Hills, age 37, used a six iron to rocket his golf ball past 188 yards and into the cup. He rounded out his 18-hole game with a score of 77.
Sanctuary
Lake Golf Course,
located at 1450 South Boulevard, is one of two golf courses owned by the City
of Troy and is built on 200 acres. It is a links-style, par 71 course that incorporates ornamental grasses, ponds, and heathered plants. It features a practice facility with a
short-game area, clubhouse, full-service pro shop and Piper’s Pub, a
full-service restaurant. The Sanctuary Lake Golf Academy is also available to
golfers who want private or semi-private lessons.
Sylvan
Glen Golf Course,
located at 5725 Rochester Road, is an 18-hole, par 71 course
that covers over 150 acres and offers a challenging blend of water, trees and
sand. The addition of three new tee boxes has added length, and new wetland
areas add to the difficulty and challenge at Sylvan Glen. Amenities include a
full-service pro shop, golf carts, and Camp Ticonderoga restaurant and grill
room. The facility supplies over 60,000 rounds of golf per season.
