Troy Historical Society
The Troy Historical Society (THS) was established in 1966 as a partner in preservation with the City of Troy.
The Troy Historical Society
- Promotes appreciation of Troy 's rich heritage
- Encourages preservation of records, pictures, structures and artifacts of local significance
- Sponsors events and educational programs at the museum
From its inception, the Society has worked with the City of Troy to establish the museum to preserve the community's heritage. Over the years, the Society has provided thousands of hours of volunteer service at the museum, contributed financial support for public programs and events and donated over $750,000 in support of the expansion projects at the museum. These projects included:
- 1968 THS volunteers conducted tours and maintained the building when City Council designated the 1927 Township Hall the Troy Museum and appointed a five-member Historical Commission to oversee the operation of the facility.
- 1968 THS acquired, relocated and restored the Caswell House. THS volunteers opened the museum three afternoons each week.
- 1978 THS helped finance the development of a Print Shop and acquired and relocated the Wagon Shop to the village.
- 1980 THS led the campaign to acquire, relocate and restore Poppleton School .
- 1980 THS acquired and relocated a Log Cabin.
- 1987 THS relocated Troy Union School (now Troy Hall) to the village.
- 1989 THS contributed $82,000 towards the construction of a general store in the village. This building includes an environmentally controlled archive.
- 1997 THS and the City of Troy jointly purchased the Old Troy Methodist Church (1837) and Parsonage (ca 1880). The buildings were relocated in 2003 and restored in 2004.
We welcome and encourage people of all ages to join the Troy Historical Society and become a "Partner in Preservation".
