The Troy Parks and Recreation Department, through its Adaptive Recreation Program, offers recreation programs for persons with disabilities. We encourage your input. All participants in the Adaptive Recreation Program are required to have a registration form on file. Please complete the Adaptive Registration Form and bring it to your first activity.
Basketball
Offered fall and winter at the Troy Community Center on Tuesday evenings for persons with developmental disabilities. Pre-registration is required. See the Friendship Club newsletter for registration information. Minimum age: 16
Bowling
Saturdays (except holiday weekends and July and August) from 11 am - 1 pm at Troy Lanes (located on Square Lake just west of John R). The $4 per week fee includes shoes and three games of bowling. Reservations are not required. Minimum age: 10
Daytime Friendship Club
For adults with developmental disabilities. Meets at the Community Center every Thursday (except July) from 10 am - 3 pm Activities include sports, fitness, field trips, movies, games and more. The fee is $63 per month. Pre-registration by the month is required. See the Friendship Club newsletter for details. Minimum age: 18
Diners Club
For teens and adults with developmental disabilities. Meet at the Community Center on the first Monday of each month and travel by van to a local restaurant for dinner. Pre-registration is required. See the Friendship Club newsletter for details. Minimum age: 16
Friendship Club
For teens and adults with developmental disabilities, this club meets on the second and fourth Monday evening at the Troy Community Center. The second Monday is Movie and Pizza night and the fourth Monday is Bingo night. Reservations are not required. Call 248.524.3484 to receive the free bimonthly Friendship Club News. Minimum age: 13
Friday Frolic
This dance for teens and adults with developmental disabilities is held on the second Friday of each month (except July and August) at the Troy Community Center from 7 - 9:30 pm. The fee is $4 at the door. Reservations are not required. Minimum age: 16
Performing Arts Club
For teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. Wednesday evenings (except the third Wednesday) at the Troy Community Center. A donation of $2 per week is requested. Co-sponsored by the Italian Study Group of Troy. For more information, call Denise at 248.585.5246. Minimum age: 16
Soccer League
Spring and fall soccer is offered by the Troy Youth Soccer Ability League for physically and developmentally disabled ages five through 26. Teams are formed by age and ability. Call Toni Lonero at 248.524.3247 for information.
Softball
A Thursday evening league for teens and adults with developmental disabilities plays against other cities in Oakland County May through August. Practices are held on Tuesday evenings. Pre-registration is required. See the Friendship club newsletter for details. Minimum age: 16
Special Events
Countywide special events are offered by Oakland County Parks and Recreation for people with cognitive and physical impairments. Call 248.858.7596 to receive the Oakland County Parks newsletter.
Special Olympics
Team Troy Special Olympics participates in swimming, track and field, and golf. Watch for information in the Friendship Club newsletter. Minimum age: 8
Swimming
Team Troy Special Olympics offers Special Olympics swim training each January. Call 248.656.0279 for information. Pre- registration is required.
Trips
For teens and adults with developmental disabilities. Several one day trips and one or two overnight trips are planned each year. See the Friendship Club newsletter for details.
Weight Watchers
For teens and adults with developmental disabilities. Thursdays at 6:15 pm at the Troy Community Center. Through a scholarship from Weight Watchers, the fee is .50 per week plus a $1 initiation fee. Braille is available. Persons accompanying a program participant may participant for the same fee. Co-sponsored by the Association for Retarded Citizens. Wheelchair Sports
For men and women age 18 and older with physical disabilities. Friday evenings at Boulan Middle School, September through March. Co-sponsored by Oakland County Parks and Recreation Department. Call 248.858.7596 for details.
