Nature Center Green Initiatives

Recycle paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, glass, and batteries

Outdoor chairs, tables, benches, and trash receptacles are made from recycled materials

Use automatic hand dryers in bathrooms (instead of paper towels)

Automatic flush toilets & faucets (with sensors)

Lights are kept off in rooms not in use

Sensor lights in classrooms, bathrooms and hallway

Compact fluorescent light bulbs used in fixtures

Programmable thermostats

Use recycled rubber tire products in exhibit area

Educational programs about energy

Use recyclable materials for crafts

Use three bin composting system located behind the Nature Center building

Use two, 65 gallon rain barrels - installed on Nature Center building rainspouts

Installed a rain garden to use for educational purposes

Computers switch to sleep mode when they are not in use

Use natural light throughout the building

Planted additional trees along nature center trails to provide shade and reduce CO2 emissions
