Program Philosophy and Goals

Philosophy

Rainbow Preschool: (ages 3-5)

The City of Troy Parks and Recreation Department's Rainbow program is designed to enhance interaction through play and provide a learning experience for the children.

Our goal is to keep the children happy, active and involved in a program of self-help skills and responsible behavior. Our 4-5 year classes, while continuing socialization skills, also will be present pre-kindergarten readiness skills in numerous fun filled activities.

It has been our experience that our program is most successful when the parents are enthusiastically and wholeheartedly supportive of their child's learning process.

Parent and Tot Classes: (ages 18 months - 2 years 11 months)

The City of Troy Parks and Recreation Department's Rainbow Parent and Tot program is designed to enhance interaction through play and to provide a learning experience for the children. The program provides for the emotional growth of the child as the child moves from a protected individualized home experience to a group experience. Every effort is made to help the child feel secure in the new setting, depending on the individual child's need. Parents are present to help guide their child during this transition period. The teacher is there only as a facilitator providing help when needed.

The Parent and Tot program is designed for a one-to-one relationship between parent and to in a nursery school setting. Each parent works and plays with their child. Repetition is very important for children at this age level. The need to know there is a schedule to follow and that is consistent makes the child more self-confident.

It's Fun Being 3: (2 1/2 - 3 1/2 years)

The City of Troy Parks and Recreation Department's It's Fun Being 3 program is designed to enhance interaction through play and to provide a learning experience for the children. The program provides for the emotional growth of the child as a child moves from a protected individualized home experience to a group experience while being accompanied by a parent. Every effort is made to help the child feel secure in the new setting, depending on the individual's need.

The It's Fun Being Three program is designed to create independence from the home in a pre-school setting. Repetition is very important for children at this age level. The need to know there is a schedule to follow and that it is consistent makes the child more self-confident.
