Reporting Dead Birds

A correlation has been noted between the peak in summer time bird deaths and reported human cases of West Nile Virus. To take advantage of this correlation the Oakland County Health Department is asking the public to report all dead birds, by species when possible, through the OCHD Information Line (877-377-3641).

You may dispose of the dead birds at any time. Dead birds should never come in direct skin contact. Invert a plastic bag over your hand (like a mitt) to pick up the bird and then pull the bag up over the bird and off of your hand. Sacked dead bird should be thrown into the garbage.
