Master Plan

The Master Plan Process

The current City of Troy The Future Land Use Plan currently in use was originally adopted in 1968 and has been revised numerous times since that time. The Municipal Planning Act requires that at least 5 years after the adoption of a plan, a municipality shall review the plan and determine whether to commence the procedure to amend the plan or adopt a new plan..

On May 24, 2005, the Planning Commission made a finding that the Future Land Use Plan is deficient and in need of a comprehensive update.

On August 14, 2006, the City Council, in agreement with the findings of the Planning Commission, initiated the process of preparing the City of Troy Master Plan, including sub area plans for Big Beaver Road, Maple Road, Stephenson Highway and Rochester Road, and that the Big Beaver Road Corridor Study be incorporated as a part of this process.

Carlisle / Wortman Associates, Inc. (CWA) is assisting the Planning Commission with Master Plan preparation.

The Master Plan under development takes into consideration recommendations from the Troy Futures Vision 2020 document and includes findings from the Smart Growth Readiness Assessment Tool (SGRAT) which was undertaken at the beginning of the process in June of 2007.

At the January 22, 2008 Planning Commission accepted the draft Master Plan presented as the working draft for the Public Input Workshop. The Public Input Workshop Open House was held on February 26, 2008.

At their July 7, 2008 meeting the City Council voted to release the draft Master Plan for a coordinated review by our neighboring communities. After the 63 day review period is complete the Master Plan will go to a Public Hearing before the Planning Commission for final approval.
