Master Plan

The Master Plan 2008

On May 24, 2005, the Planning Commission made a finding that the Future Land Use Plan, originally adopted in 1968, was deficient and in need of a comprehensive update. The Municipal Planning Act requires that at least 5 years after the adoption of the plan, a municipality shall review the plan and determine whether to commence the procedure to amend the plan or adopt a new plan.

On August 14, 2006, the City Council, in agreement with the findings of the Planning Commission, initiated the process of preparing the City of Troy Master Plan, including sub area plans for Big Beaver Road, Maple Road, Stephenson Highway and Rochester Road, and that the Big Beaver Road Corridor Study be incorporated as a part of this process.

The new Master Plan takes into consideration recommendations from the Troy Futures Vision 2020 document and includes findings from the Smart Growth Readiness Assessment Tool (SGRAT) which was undertaken at the beginning of the process in June of 2007. The firm of Carlisle/Wortman Associates, Inc. (CWA) assisted the Planning Commission with the Master Plan preparation.

At the January 22, 2008 meeting the Planning Commission accepted the draft Master Plan presented as the working draft for the Public Input Workshop. The Public Input Workshop Open House was held on February 26, 2008. At their July 7, 2008 meeting, the City Council released the draft Master Plan for a coordinated review by our neighboring communities, Macomb County and Oakland County.

The Planning Commission held the final public hearing on October 14, 2008. At that meeting the City of Troy Master Plan 2008 was adopted by the Planning Commission.

Hard copies of the Master Plan may be viewed or purchased at the City of Troy Planning Department, 500 W. Big Beaver Road and viewed at the Troy Public Library, 510 W. Big Beaver Road.
