President Dwight D. Eisenhower designated May 1 as Law Day in 1958 and the United States Congress designated it as an annual nationwide event in 1961. Its purpose is to raise public awareness of American law and justice and their impact on our lives.
This day is an opportunity to strengthen our great American heritage of liberty, justice, and equality under the law. The City of Troy and the State Bar of Michigan join various local bar associations, businesses, schools, and other organizations in conducting programs associated with improving the public's understanding of our justice system. These programs will be presented throughout the entire month of May.
